The Foundation can be considered the Alberto Burris's last work: Burri himself chose the venues and indicated the principles for their restoration for exhibition purposes; he also selected the works still on display today and curated their mounting.

The Fondazione Palazzo Albizzini Collezione Burri was established in 1978 by the master Alberto Burri in Città di Castello - his birthplace - and it consists of two venues: Palazzo Albizzini and Ex Seccatoi del Tabacco.

The venue of Palazzo Albizzini is a Renaissance palace in the old town of the city and it was opened to the public in 1981; 150 artworks are exhibited in this museum in a chronological order, from 1948 to 1985. In this palace there are also the offices, the documentary and photographic archive and a library open to the public. The venue of Ex Seccatoi del Tabacco - in the immediate outskirts of Città di Catello - consists in eleven buildings used in the past for the tobacco drying. This museum was opened to the public in 1990 and the outer walls of the facilities are all painted black by the will of Burri. 128 artworks - produced between 1974 and 1993 - are shown in this museum.

In 2017, in the basement of this huge venue, the permanent collection of the Graphics Work was inaugurated; it includes 196 artworks produced between 1957 and 1994. Furthermore, in 2018 the Documentary Section was inaugurated in the adjacent exhibition rooms. In these spaces there are some multimedia screens and touchscreens that allow visitors to learn more about Alberto Burri and his works; many essays, brochures, magazines and exhibitions catalogues are all available in digital version, as well as videos dedicated to the artist. Finally, in 2019 a wide area dedicated to the temporary exhibitions was opened to the public.

The Ex Seccatoi del Tabacco is the venue also dedicated to the educational activities, international conferences and study days. The Foundation can be considered the artist’s last work: Burri himself chose the venues and indicated the principles for their restoration for exhibition purposes; he also selected the works still on display today and curated their mounting.
